What is Botox®?

Botulinum toxin A (also known by the name Botox®) can be injected into muscles of the face and neck to temporarily paralyse the actions of those muscles. This reduces the prominence of facial lines and wrinkles. It is very effective in reducing forehead wrinkles, frown lines, bunny lines, crow’s feet, upturned chin, smoker’s lips and neck lines. Botulinum toxin A can also be used to reduce excessive sweating of the underarms, hands and feet and to manage migraines.

The best Botox® in London

All our treatments, including our Botox® treatments, are carefully selected for their safety and efficacy. When it comes to providing Botox® treatments for the face we strive to achieve the natural look for our patients. We follow the less is more approach to aesthetics. Our many Botox® patients know and appreciate this.

Why Choose Botox?

Botox, scientifically known as Botulinum toxin A, offers a proven solution for reducing the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. Its effectiveness lies in temporarily paralysing muscle actions, leading to a smoother, more youthful complexion. Botox is particularly effective against forehead wrinkles, frown lines, crow’s feet, and other common signs of ageing. Beyond aesthetic improvements, Botox also serves practical purposes, such as managing excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and migraines.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox functions by blocking nerve signals to the muscles where it is injected. This temporary paralysis prevents the muscles from contracting, which in turn smooths out wrinkles and fine lines. The treatment is minimally invasive and typically shows results within a few days, lasting several months. Botox’s ability to target specific muscles makes it versatile for various aesthetic and medical concerns.

Which areas of the face can benefit from a Botox® treatment?

Marionette Lines

Marionette lines run downwards from the corner of the mouth towards the chin. The cause of marionette lines is due to the reduction of collagen and elastin in the skin as part of the natural ageing process.

Smoker's lines

You don’t need to have been a smoker to have smoker’s lines. They are seen at the side of the mouth when you purse your lips. They are also known by perioral lines, lip lines or lipstick lines.

Frown lines

Also known as glabella lines, frown lines are the vertical lines that form between the eyebrows. When the frowning movement is repeated over time wrinkles will eventually develop in this area.

Crow's Feet

Crow’s feet are fine lines that extend out from the corners of your eyes. They are formed by smiling, blinking or laughing. Again, these lines are formed when the skin starts to lose collagen and elastin as you age.

Forehead furrows

These are the vertical lines that are seen higher up on the forehead. They are a result of expressions you have made over a long period of time.

Neck bands

The other name for neck bands is platysma bands. This is a common condition in older patients and is caused by the thickening of the muscles in the neck causing the appearance of sagging skin.

Bunny lines

These lines can be seen when you scrunch up your nose. This scrunching movement uses the nasalis muscle. If you have a tendency to do this often then as with all facial lines, wrinkles will form over time.

Gummy Smile

This is the term for the excessive display of the upper gums and teeth when smiling. Botox® is carefully used in this area to gently restrict the raising of the upper lip when you smile.

Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is the term for excess sweating.Botox® can be used to combat excessive armpit sweating. Hyperhidrosis is a common condition and can be successfully treated with Botox®.

Botox® FAQs

Botox® has been used for over 30 years around the world and is considered perfectly safe, provided it is used by an experienced and fully trained medical professional. Botox® is used in the NHS for various non-cosmetic treatments. Botox® is a FDA approved treatment.

I often get asked to visit patients around London to provide Botox® and other services. I do not provide this service. Please book an appointment to see me at No.1 Harley street, London.

I will take a detailed look at your past treatments and discuss your aesthetic goals and ambitions. You will be asked to fill out a medical history form. After a facial examination we can discuss your treatment options and your Botox® suitability. You will have plenty of time to ask Úna any questions you have.

After your consultation your treatment will be fully explained to you and any questions regarding your Botox® treatment will be patiently answered. Úna then makes a series of small injections into the target areas. Patients describe this as a pinching sensation. You will be offered topical numbing cream if you find this uncomfortable.

You will be provided with aftercare and advice on how to get the most out of your Botox® treatment. You may have some slight bruising and swelling in the injected area but this will subside.

You will start to see results within 1-3 days following your treatment. Maximum effects are usually seen after 1-2 weeks.

Botox® usually stays effective for approximately 3-4 months but this varies from patient to patient.
