What are skin boosters?
Skin boosters are anti-ageing injectable treatments that aim to re-hydrate the skin and increase production of collagen and elastin to give improvements to your complexion.
Skin boosters contain Hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a natural substance produced in the body. As we age the levels of HA in the skin will get depleted, leading to lesser amounts of collagen and reduced skin elasticity. Skin boosters work to counteract this depletion.
As well as the HA element, most skin boosters contain additional ingredients such as amino acids for added benefits.

Skin Booster FAQs
→ What is the difference between skin boosters and dermal fillers considering they both contain HA?
Skin boosters contain HA yes, but in a different formulation than dermal fillers. The HA is of a more watery nature in skin boosters when compared to dermal fillers. This allows the HA to spread out more, whereas dermal fillers are designed to remain in the place they were injected. Skin boosters have a hydrating effect designed to plump up the skin. Dermal fillers are designed to give volume and not to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin as is the case with skin boosters.
→ What happens during my skin booster treatment?
The skin boosters used at Dermal Health all have a similar method of delivery. Small amounts are injected into the upper layers of the skin. The injections are spaced out evenly to allow for uniform distribution.
→ Does the skin booster treatment hurt?
As with a lot of injectable treatments the skin booster treatment has been likened to a visit to the dentist. The injection needles are very fine and very small amounts of the skin booster is used. Una can apply a numbing cream prior to the treatment if required.
→ Are further skin booster treatments required?
Each skin booster type comes with different recommendations and everyone’s skin is different. What we recommend would depend on a few factors but in general, one treatment followed by another approximately one month after is suggested for the optimal results for ProfHilo. Following that a ‘maintenance dose’ is suggested roughly every 6 months.
For Redensity 1 the recommended treatment protocol is 3 treatments 3 weeks apart.
The Sukekos 200 protocol is 4 treatments, 7-10 days apart.
→ Can skin boosters be used on parts of the body other than the face?
Although skin boosters are commonly used on the face, they can be effective when used on the hands and neck, and also the arms, legs and abdomen.
→ Are there any side effects from skin boosters?
Due the biocompatible nature of the HA ingredient side effects are limited to the possibility of mild swelling and bruising, and infection. Infection risks are low when good sterile protocols are in place. Side effects are limited when skin boosters are performed by a fully trained professional.
→ Which skin booster is right for me?
This will depend on your age, lifestyle, the condition of your skin and the severity of the condition you wish to treat. Following a detailed examination and consultation Úna will suggest the skin booster that she feels will give you the best results.
As with all my treatments I welcome any questions you may have so please feel free to get in touch should you have any questions not answered in the FAQ section above.
