What are dermal fillers?

As we age our facial tissues start to lose collagen and thin out. Wrinkles and fine lines start to appear. Dermal fillers are designed to replace lost volume and are used to help smooth out the lines and wrinkles on your face as well as other parts of your body. They contain hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occuring substance already found in the body.
The overall aim of dermal fillers is to help restore a youthful appearance.

If you are looking to have a dermal filler treatment in London then you are at the right place. We are experts in the use of dermal fillers and other aesthetic treatments.

As dermal fillers are biocompatible they can be used in many parts of the body.

What kind of dermal fillers do you use?

We currently use Revanesse® Versa™ which is a premium brand of dermal filler that has been widely used for the last 11 years. It is also an FDA approved dermal filler. We chose this brand for its excellent safety profile, coupled with it’s effectiveness.

Is there any downtime with dermal filler treatments?

The recovery time for a dermal filler treatment will vary from patient to patient. Most of your day to day activities can be resumed straight after your appointment. We recommend that you avoid vigorous activity for 24- 48 hours following your appointment. You might experience a small amount of bruising and swelling after the treatment.

How Dermal Fillers Work

Dermal fillers, such as the FDA-approved Revanesse® Versa™ used at Dermal Health, function by restoring lost volume in facial tissues. As we age, our skin loses collagen, leading to the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance naturally found in the body that helps smooth out these lines and wrinkles, effectively rejuvenating the skin.

Benefits of Dermal Fillers

Immediate Results and Minimal Downtime

One of the significant advantages of dermal fillers is the immediacy of results. Patients typically notice an enhancement right after the procedure. The recovery time is also minimal, allowing most individuals to resume their daily activities immediately, with a recommendation to avoid vigorous activities for 24-48 hours.

Versatility of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are incredibly versatile and can be used in various parts of the body. They effectively correct nose shape, smooth out lumps, and enhance facial symmetry. Additionally, they are used for lip augmentation, chin and jawline contouring, and addressing hollow areas around the eyes.

Long-Lasting Effects

The effects of dermal fillers are enduring but not permanent, offering a balance between longevity and flexibility for future adjustments. The duration of the effects varies, but patients can enjoy the benefits for an extended period before a follow-up treatment is needed.

Dermal Fillers for Specific Areas

Lip Enhancement with Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are ideal for restoring lip size, correcting asymmetry, or adding volume. They provide a natural and balanced enhancement to the lips, tailored to each patient’s aesthetic goals.

Jaw Contouring with Dermal Fillers

Jawline fillers are used to define the angles of the jaw, improving the definition and contour of the lower face. This treatment can create a more prominent chin profile and improve overall facial symmetry.

Tear Trough Treatment with Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers offer an effective solution for areas around the eyes that have become hollow-looking due to ageing. They fill under-skin voids and replace displaced fat, helping to alleviate dark circles and other imperfections.

The Procedure: What to Expect

Consultation and Assessment

Your journey begins with a consultation with our medical director, Úna Jefford, known for her extensive medical knowledge and warm, personal approach. During this phase, your aesthetic goals and concerns are discussed, and a personalised treatment plan is formulated.

The Dermal Filler Procedure

The procedure involves injecting the dermal filler into the targeted areas. It is a quick process, typically completed within the same appointment, and is designed to be as comfortable as possible.

Post-Treatment Care and Follow-up

After the treatment, patients might experience minimal bruising and swelling. Post-treatment care instructions will be provided to ensure optimal results. A follow-up appointment may be scheduled to assess the outcomes and make any necessary adjustments.

Areas that can be treated with dermal fillers

The Nose

Dermal fillers can be used to correct the shape of the nose and smooth out lumps and bumps that may be visible. They can also be used to enlarge, straighten and correct asymmetry of the nose.

The Eyes

Fat is held in place by the skin. As we age, fat can shift and areas around the eyes can become more hollow looking. Dermal fillers can fill voids under the skin and replace the displaced fat to help with dark circles and other imperfections.

The Lips

Dermal fillers are used to restore your lips to a previous size, to correct asymmetrical lips, or to simply add more volume to one or both of the lips.

The Chin and Jawline

Dermal fillers in the chin are becoming more popular of late. They are used to alter the definition and contour of the lower face and to improve facial symmetry. Chin fillers can create a more prominent chin profile or correct imperfections. Jawline fillers are used to define angles  of the jaw.

The Cheeks

The process of ageing can result in loss of volume in the cheeks. As well as replacing this lost volume, cheek fillers can give the appearance of a more defined cheekbone structure.

The Forehead

Dermal fillers are commonly used to correct imperfections in the forehead and the temple areas. They are also used to fill recessed scarring and to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

The Mouth

Dermal fillers are used to treat creases and wrinkles around the mouth area such as naso-labial folds.

Dermal Filler FAQs

Although every consultation is slightly different the time usually consists of you, the patient, discussing your wishes and asking questions. Una will take a look at your medical history and ask some questions while she examines the areas of concern. All treatment options will be fully explained and Una will provide you with a treatment plan. Una will be happy to answer any further questions you may have.

Having dermal fillers has been likened to going for a dentist appointment. You will feel a sharp scratch sensation. Una will use numbing cream to numb the area first if you require. Dermal filler is patiently and methodically injected into the area. The appointment will take approximately 30 minutes. You will be provided with aftercare information to help you get the best out of your dermal filler treatment.

The active ingredient in the fillers we use is hyaluronic acid. This substance occurs naturally in the body. It has a variety of uses within the body including helping with wound healing, smoothing joints, and hydration.

The length of time our fillers last for is approximately 6-9 months, depending on certain factors, including lifestyle. Patients have reported this to be longer in certain cases.

Dermal fillers are regarded as a safe treatment provided they are given by a fully accredited, experienced practitioner using safe infection control procedures and using recognised brands.

However much I would like to see you, we are an appointment only clinic. However, it might be the case that we can see you at short notice.

Yes we can do a video consultation if you find this more convenient. We have an easy-to-use video system that does not store the recording.
