Why would I have a chemical peel?

Peels can help to manage skin conditions, but the main reason patients have a chemical peel is to even out the texture and pigmentation of the skin. Chemical peels stimulate skin cell regeneration which results in a smoother overall skin surface.

The ZO Stimulator peel

The ZO Stimulator peel as its name might suggest, is a milder form of peel designed to stimulate cell turnover. It is classed as a superficial peel. This peel, although classed as mild, is very effective in the stripping of dead skin cells and has no downtime attached.

The Definesse Classic Peel

The classic peel is excellent for the fading of superficial scars, fine lines and wrinkles and other skin imperfections. It combines Salicylic acid, Pyruvic acid, Retinoic acid for effective results.

The Definesse Lightening Peel

This peel might be the best option for you if you have signs of melasma, melanotic pigmentation and photo-ageing marks and other signs of skin discolouration. It contains the same ingredients as the classic peel and two other ingredients to help with the lightening of hyperpigmentation.

Skin Peel FAQs

Ingredients vary from peel to peel but the main ingredients would be a combination of types of acids. Examples of these acids are glycolic, salicylic, citric, pyruvic and retinoic.

We use the ZO Stimulator peel, the Definesse classic peel, and the Definesse Lightening peel.

After a cleansing of the skin a pre-peel solution is applied to the area with the use of gauze or cotton wool. This solution stays on your skin. After covering your eyes and hair the selected peel is then  applied to your skin using a brush or sponge. A couple of minutes later a white coating will appear as any solvents present in the peel evaporate. You may experience a tingling or tightening feeling at this point. The peel stays on the skin for a specific amount of time before it is neutralised and removed. A cool compress is then applied to the skin.

Depending on the peel you had you will start to see new, healthy skin after approximately 7-14 days.

We use 3 different types of peels so downtime might vary slightly. In general you might experience some redness and skin peeling for up to 48 hours following the peel procedure.

Benefits of Chemical Peel

Chemical peels offer a variety of benefits, making them a popular choice for skin rejuvenation. Peels can reduce signs of ageing, including wrinkles and fine lines, and can improve skin texture and tone. They can also minimise the appearance of sun damage, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation. By encouraging the growth of new skin, chemical peels can give you a more youthful, radiant appearance.

Chemical Peels Treatment at Dermal Health

At Dermal Health Clinic, we are committed to providing personalised treatments that cater to your unique skin needs. Every consultation and treatment allows us to find out more about your skin, to allow us to give you only the very best possible experience.

Initial Consultation

The initial consultation is the first step in the chemical peel procedure at Dermal Health Clinic. During this meeting, Úna will assess your skin type, discuss your skincare goals, and answer any questions you might have about the treatment. Based on this information, she’ll devise a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

The Chemical Peels Procedure

The chemical peel process at Dermal Health Clinic involves applying a solution to the skin, which causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The procedure typically takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the type of peel.

Aftercare and Recovery from Chemical Peels

Recovering from a chemical peel requires specific aftercare instructions to ensure optimal results and minimise potential side effects.

Post-Peel Care Instructions

After your chemical peel, keeping your skin clean and moisturising is important, but more so is avoiding direct sunlight, and when you do go outside, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30. It’s also important not to pick or peel the skin as it’s healing, which can cause scarring.

Recovery Time and Results

Recovery time can vary based on the type of peel you receive. Light peels typically require 4-7 days of recovery, while medium or deep peels can require 1-2 weeks. The results can be noticeable immediately after the skin has healed, with enhanced results seen in the weeks following the treatment as the skin continues to heal and regenerate.

How Do I Choose the Right Chemical Peel for My Skin Type?

The right chemical peel for your skin type will depend on your specific concerns, such as acne, hyperpigmentation, or ageing. During your consultation at Dermal Health Clinic, we’ll guide you in choosing the most suitable peel for your skin type.

Is the Chemical Peel Procedure Painful?

Generally, patients report feeling a slight stinging sensation during the chemical peel procedure. However, the level of discomfort can vary based on the type of peel. At Dermal Health Clinic, we strive to make this and all our treatments as comfortable as possible for our patients.
